Peace Centre Xmas Fayre

On reflection we have decided not to publish the pics of the children visiting Santa as we hadn't told all the parents that we were going to do this, so it wouldn't be fair on them. We do plan to do it next year and parents will be able to opt out if they wish. I can eMail the pic of your child if you can identify them for me.

Gaza Demo ManchesterProtesters gathered around the Queen Victoria statue in Manchester to protest against Israel's attacks on Gaza. They were joined by the Syrian demonstrators, because as one speaker put it "They are two sides of the same coin".

Syrian Demo ManchesterDemonstrators took to the street in Manchester to draw attention to what's happening in that troubled country. The event was well organised and peaceful as you would expect.




Remembrance Sunday 2012 (Eccles)

Remembrance Sunday 2012 EcclesHundreds of people gathered around the Cenotaph in Eccles Town Centre to pay their respects to the fallen. They commemorated the dead of two World Wars and also of more recent conflicts around the world.

Irlam & Cadishead Music Festival

Irlam & Cadishead Music FestivalCreamfields? Leeds? Forget all that, I went to Prince's Park, Irlam to see a collection of up & coming bands strut their stuff on a Bank Holiday weekend. Featuring mainly local young people, the youngest being the drummer with Story Untold who was only twelve! If you missed it this year, get along next, you may see the next music sensation!

Birmingham For Justice

Birmingham For JusticeHundres of people from all over the country gathered in Summerfield Park in Birmingham prior to marching through the town centre. They came to highlight and protest the many deaths in police custody. Among those they gathered to remember are Anthony Grainger, Kingsley Burrell, Sean Rigg, Smiley Culture and many others, sadly too many to mention.

Walkden Music Festival

Mancini Fire at Walkden Music FestivalHundreds of people gathered in Parr Fold Park for a free music festival featuring local bands, bouncy castles, and a fire engine complementing the existing skate board park and outdoor gym.

Caribbean Carnival 2012The streets around Alexander Park were lined with hundreds of people to watch the parade that kicked off the Caribbean Carnival. Two days of fun showcasing the caribbean community.

Eccles Fire Station Open Day

Eccles Fire Station Open DayVisitors to Eccles Fire Station were treated to a comedy performance by firefighters trying to recue a relectant "Damsel" in distress. They could also see some of the equipment up close. Even the blood transfusion service were there to recruit donors. Do you give blood? Do it now!

Anthony Grainger Fundraiser

Anthony Grainger FundraiserFriends and family of Anthony Grainger had a fun night with the aim of raising funds for the campaign and to provide for his kids. Anthony was shot dead by Greater Manchester Police on March 3rd 2012. The shooting has been referred to the IPCC.


Mile In Memory 2012

Mile In Memory 2012Pamela Statham lost her beautiful son Jamie aged 10 months old to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) four years ago. Today she and her friends & supporters honoured his memory in the 4th Mile In Memory walk through Monton. Hoping to raise both funds and awarenes of FSID the Cot Death Charity. Mayday Rally 2012Trades Union Members & Supporters gathered at Bexley Square for the annual May Day Rally. Among the speakers was newly elected Mayor of Salford Ian Stewart.

Treyvon Martin VigilA vigil inspired by the death in America of Treyvon Martin was held on Market Street Manchester. The vigil also drew attention to deaths in Police custody. 31st March 2012.



The Queens Visits Salford

The Queen Visits SalfordHundreds of people gathered as The BBC Studios on Salford Quays was officially opened by Her Majesty. The Queen then started the Sport Relief Mile.


St Patrick's Day Parade

St patrick's Day 2012Thousands of people lined the streets of Manchester to watch the annual St Patrick's Day Parade. From babies to pensioners, everyone had a great time. The parade circled Albert Square where it was met by The Mayor of Manchester. Next year, St Pat's Day falls on a Sunday so that should add to the atmosphere of this great event. Well done to the organisers.

Syrian Peace Doves

Syrian Peaced Doves10 Doves of Peace were released in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens to show solidarity with the people of Syria.


UK Uncut Workfare Protest

Uk Uncut Workfare Protest3 people were arrested while peacefully protesting about the government's "Workfare" scheme. Tescos, McDonalds, Topman and HMV were targetted by the protesters. The arrests were made AFTER the protesters had agreed to leave.

Save the NHS

Chris Bisson - Save the NHSActor Chris Bisson (Shameless, Corrie, Emmerdale) joined with NHS workers and Councillors to say a big fat NO to The Coalition's proposed NHS Bill.


Kids Honoured by Salford's Mayor & Mayoress

When kids from Oliver's Youth Club heard about 67yr old Bridget Kavanagh being robbed of her pension, they were determined to help her. That help was recognised today when they were invited to The Mayor's Parlour, along with Bridget, for a spot of lunch.

Tesco Workfare Demo

tesco Workfare DemoProtesters gathered to voice their anger over Tesco's use of the Government's "Workfare" scheme. Under the scheme it is alleged that workers are "Forced" to work a full week for only their benefits, plus expenses. The protesters regard this as "Slavery". Tesco have recently urged the Government to remove the compulsory nature of the scheme. Tesco are not the only company to take advantage of this scheme.

Swinton Cemetery Threatened

Swinton Cemetery ThreatenedThere's a cemetery in Swinton that is under threat from a proposed new Asda store. A hero from World War One is buried there along with over 300 others. The last internment was only in the sixties.
